Hi everyone,
I’ve had a few beautiful designer bags in my life — some vintage Gucci, a Fendi Baguette, and a Louis Vuitton Speedy. Each one has its own story and charm, but I’ve always had that quiet dream of owning a Hermes someday.
Realistically, I don’t think I’ll ever be someone who can collect multiple Hermes bags. If I’m lucky, I’ll probably be able to get just one. So lately, I keep asking myself, should that dream bag be the Kelly or the Birkin?
If I ever manage to make it happen, I think a vintage Kelly/Birkin in good condition will be the only realistic option for me. I’ve also been wondering from a practical perspective — which one tends to hold better value right now, the Kelly or the Birkin? I’m not really treating it as an investment, but it’s always nice to think that a bag you love could appreciate in value over time.
I’ve been lucky — a few of my old Gucci pieces that I bought years ago are actually worth more today than when I got them, which still surprises me! So, for those of you who know Hermes better — what would you choose if you could only keep one forever?- SStefany Bags Shoes and More @stefany
We all dream of owning a Hermes bag, even the rare ones that hate the design secretly wishes to have one. Owning a Hermes bag especially a Birkin or a Kelley is a statement: Look at me ! I got one! Birkin was always a classic. However, nowadays everyone seems to be hunting for a Kelley. Why? It’s slicker, more feminine, less rigid, less bulky, not as heavy. Personally for me, Kelley is a younger version of Birkin. "Birkin Sport" so to say. Both bags hold very strong value. In recent days, Kelley surprisingly overcame Birkin in value hold. I believe it’s because it’s more sought after nowadays. It might, however shift. Bottom line, both are great investments and statement pieces. If you are more conservative and slightly on the older side, I think Birkin is a better choice. If you are more trendy and young, Kelley might be more up your alley. It’s a great problem to have choosing between the two:))

I hear the hype for the Kelly, and it’s a beautiful, younger-feeling bag. But let's be honest: most of us eventually want the original. As we get older, tastes usually shift toward the classic, refined look of the Birkin. It's the definitive statement piece that always holds its value and style, whereas the Kelly's current market lead might just be a trend. For a true "one-and-done" forever bag, the Birkin wins because it's the original classic :)
